A Fun Fine Motor Craft: Washi Tape Corn
I know that it is often hard to find a fun way to work on fine motor skills with older kids. And these washi tape crafts have been a fun way for us to work on our fine motor without calling it that.
The washi tape corn is fun to do and a great Thanksgiving craft for us. Plus it is simple and easy to do.
Each year we read many of the Thanksgiving books. In almost all the books it talks about turkeys and corn. We love reading the book Squanto’s Journey: The Story of the First Thanksgiving. I like to read books that have different sides to the same story. It allows kids to learn more about that time.
What you need for this craft:
- White paper with 3 long oval shapes drawn on it
- green washi tape
- yellow washi tape
- orange washi tape
- glue
- contstruction paper
- scissors
If you have older kids, they can trace the oval shape on the paper or have them draw it on.
How to Make the Washi Tape Corn
Our first time was to pick out the green color of washi tape we were going to use for the corn. Then we all talked about what corn should look like. We put the green tape the long ways on the ovals. We made sure to cover the whole shape.
Next, we tore off tiny pieces of yellow and orange washi tape to make our corn. It was great fine motor work, and it was fun to see how different the corn looked with the different colors of tape.
Next, we cut out our different corn pieces. Because it is washi tape, you can see the line that you need to cut.
Last, we glued our cut out corn pieces on a piece of paper.
Here is a look at our corn:
