You want to cut the yarn into 1 inch pieces of yarn. we have found that to work best for this type of yarn crafts.
How We Made the Yarn Green Tree Craft
You will see all the steps below that we used to make the Green Yarn Tree
Step 1: Paint The Trunk Of The Tree
You are going to start by painting the trunk of the tree. We used watercolor for the truck. You could also use markers or crayons. But we love painting with watercolors.
If you want a template for the tree you can find the tree fine motor mat. Just print the tree on cardstock.
Step 2: Paint The Branches Of The Tree
Next you paint some branches above the truck of the tree. This is so that is the yarn does not cover the whole top tree that is okay.
Skipping the Painting of the Tree
If you want to skip the painting of the tree you can just use the blank tree in the Spring Dot Maker printables or the tree fine motor mat. Just be sure to print on cardstock or another strong paper to make easier to apply the glue and yarn.
Step 3: Put Glue On The Branches Of The Tree
Next you put glue on the branches of the tree. You want to make sure you cover the area. You cover it in circles or anyway that puts the glue on the paper.
Step 4: Place The Yarn Around The Top Of The Tree
Now you are going to put the yarn on the top of the tree. You can start with one color and put a little bit down. Then use the next color with a little bit to cover some of the areas.
Then do a mix of colors to fill in the rest of the top of the tree. It is fun to see the top of the tree look more like a tree as you add the yarn.
Step 5: Press The Yarn Onto The Paper
You want to press the yarn onto the glue. This helps it stick better to the paper. And might get extra yarn that did not have full contact with the glue.
Step 6: Get Rid Of Yarn Not Glued On The Paper
Now you are going to stand up the paper and see what yarn falls off. And yes there will be some yarn that does not stick.
And that is okay. It makes the tree look interesting with a mix of the colors of green yarn.
