What we used to make the Birds Nest Craft
- watercolor paper – We use this because the dot markers don’t bleed through
- brown dot marker
- dot marker metallic shimmer
- oval punch 2 inches
- blue glitter paper
- paper plate – with just part of the plate
- glue
- pencil – If they want to draw there they are putting their tree.
How we made the Bird Nest Craft
Dot Marker the Nest
You start the project by using the brown dot marker on the paper plate. You cover one side of the plate with the brown color. After you finish, put it aside to dry.
You can see we put a piece of paper under the paper plate so that we don’t get dot markers on the table. You can use any scrap paper you have around for this.
If you do get dot marker on the table, magic erasers works wonders to get the color off!
Dot Marker the Tree on the Paper
Next you start on making the tree for the nest to be in. We used dot markers again. This is a simple way to make a background that does not take up a lot of time
You can dot the tree or do long strokes with the dot marker. Both are great for making it.
Plus, remember this is their tree. Let them decide how it looks. And it if does not match what you think a tree should look like that is okay!
Dot Marker the Sky and Leaves on the Paper
And just like the tree the painting is done with dot markers. If you have a different set, then use all the fun colors. But if you have the basic set, you can just use the blue and green.
You can dot the leaves or slide the marker. Let kids decide how this should look. Plus, it is fun to see how the dotting and sliding look different in the background.
Punching the Eggs Out
The next step we do in the punching of the eggs. You can do this in advance if you need a lot or let kids do it.
This is a great way to work motor skills with punching the lever and making the eggs. You can see how they turn out. The blue sparkle on this paper is loads of fun.
I find it best when kids can do it.
Glue Eggs on the Nest
After the eggs are punched out you can glue them on the back on the nest that you made.
If you have issues with the eggs not staying, you could also tape them.
Glue Nest on the Tree
Finally, you glue the nest on the tree. Be sure that kids know that there is no wrong way to place the nest. Let this bird art project be one that they decide how they do it.
Other Ways to Make the Bird Nest
If you love the dot markers but don’t want to use them. You can use watercolors for the nest and background.
You can also let them cut out ovals for the eggs.
