What is Skip Counting?

Skip counting is working on adding the same number over and over. You have a pattern of adding or counting.

So if you skip counting by 2s, you have a pattern like, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and so forth. These patterns can be repeated for many numbers.

The most often numbers used are 2 through 12. And that is what these printables work on is numbers 2 through 12 skip counting.

Each of the Dinosaur Counting Mats works on a single skip counting number and kids skip counting by that number 12 times. You can see one of the skip counting mats below.

The skip counting mat has the dinosaur footprints for the skip counting numbers. If you plan on using the mats a lot I recommend printing them on white cardstock and laminating.

You can see the skip counting mat. As you work in skip counting up the dinosaur footprints you cover the number with a clear gems. A simple way to work fine motor and skip counting.

Cover the Skip Counting with Dinosaurs

You can also use the dinosaur counters to cover the numbers as you skip count. You will have fun covering the numbers with the dinosaurs as you count.

Skip Counting with Finger Walking

Because this dinosaur skip counting mat is footprints you can use fingers to work on the skip counting. You can have them say the number and put their finger on the number and work up the footprints of the dinosaur.

Using Multiplication Flashcards with the Skip Counting Mats

You can also use the multiplication flashcards with the skip counting mat to make a math center. You get a set of flashcards and then put them on a ring. Then use the matching mat and have them flip through the cards and find the answer. You can use the dinosaur counters to cover the numbers.

Using Division Flashcards with the Skip Counting Mats

Just like the Multiplication flashcards, you can use the division flashcards as well. You put the flashcards on a ring and then flip through the cards and cover the numbers.
