You can work on learning words in many different ways. Vowel team words are words that have two vowels that make one sound.

What is a Vowel Team?

Vowel teams are two vowels that work to make one sound.

These are words like rain, mail, fruit, and seed.

The common vowel teams are: ai, ay, ea, ee, ie, oa, oe, ue, and UI.

You have two sets of cards a picture of a word with a vowel team and then a written word for them to find.

You are going to find the following vowel team matching cards:
mail – rain
play – tray
leaf – read
seed – sleep
die – pie
boat – road
toe – doe
clue – glue
suit – fruit

Ways to Use the Vowel Team Matching Cards Printable

These are just a few ways to use the vowel team matching cards.

Vowel Team Matching Game

You can make this a matching game with the cards. You have pictures on one side and words on the other side. Then you can have them said the words for each of the pictures and cards. Then matching the vowel team that match.

You can see one of the matches here. It is a simple way to match and then have them say the words and the point out the vowel team in the word.

Match on Table Top Pocket Folder

You can also just give them a stack of cards and have them match the cards in a table top pocket chart. These are super fun to use with matching cards.

Matching Vowel Team Cards on Rings

You can put the vowel team cards on rings. Then have kids flip through the cards and make the matches. You can also have kids write the matches. You can grab some blank paper here for writing.

Underline the Vowel Team on the Cards

You can also have kids work on just finding the vowel team on the written word. They can underline the vowel team words.

You can see we used a red crayon to underline the vowel team on the word.
