What is a Matching Puzzle?

A matching puzzle is where you have an items on the mat that matches something on the puzzle piece. These can vary in the different ways that you can use them.

You can see the two parts of the ABC puzzle. You have the ABC mat and the puzzle pieces. You want to make sure to print these on cardstock and laminate them. It helps them last longer.

You can see how the piece match. Kids are looking for the white letter on the page to match to the ABC mat.

You are going to see the steps below we did in preparing the puzzle.

Laminate the Puzzle

You want to make sure to laminate both parts of the puzzle to start with. You can see above that we laminated the puzzle before cutting it out. A lot of people say the other way works better. But I like cutting after laminating.

You can prepare the puzzle mat in many different ways but wall putty works great to puzzles in the place without much noise. You can see that I put a small amount on the corner on each place on the puzzle.

You can see the puzzle stays in place as it is standing on the side.

Ways to Use the Candy ABC Puzzle Printable

You can see a few ways to use it and ideas to do with the puzzle.

Set up the Puzzle

You can set up the puzzle mat on one side and puzzle pieces on the other side. If you are worried about the puzzle pieces getting lose you can put them in a small basket.

Say the Letters on the Mat

You can start by having them say all the letters on the mat. It is a great letter recognition activity for kids.

Make the Puzzle

After you have the puzzle set up you can let kids build the ABC puzzle.

Letter Activities You can do While making the Puzzles

You can talk about the sounds each letter makes.

You can ask what would start with the letter.

You could write the letters from the puzzle on a blank paper.
