What is Addition & Subtraction Math Fact Family?

A fact family is a group of math facts using the same numbers. So you can use 2 + 3 =5 for addition and 5 – 3 = 2 for subtraction. They are using the same fact family numbers for the equations. Fact families are a fun way to work on math.

This printable works on fact families and how you can use them for addition and subtraction.

You are going to find scoops with the numbers 0 to 20 on them. You print this set of cards twice to go with the cones. I recommend printing on cardstock. If you plan on using these several times laminating the cards to help them hold up better.

You are going to find cones with the numbers 1 to 20 on them. These are what you match the scoops.

You are going to find an addition and subtraction math fact sheet with a place for the cone and scoops and writing the math facts for addition and subtraction. Plus a 1 to 20 chart to help.

You are also going to find a Math Facts worksheet to use with the cones and scoops. The math fact sheet has places for 6 different sets of numbers.

Ways to Use the Ice Cream Cone Addition & Subtraction Fact Family Matching

I want to show you a few ways to use these addition and subtraction math facts printable. You can make it into a matching game or switch it up and use it as a math fact center.

Match the Two numbers That Add Up to the Cone

You can have fun by just matching the scoops to the cones. This is an easy way to find all three numbers together. Plus you can work on different ways that that numbers can be used to add up to the same number.

Adding Double Matching

You can have a fun game of matching the doubles. You will find that it is fun to see what two fours will add up to. It is another fun way to change up how you use these.

Using the Math Fact Help Mat

You can have fun with the scoops and cones with the math face help printable. It has numbers 1 to 20 plus the math facts to fill out. You can do this one time use or you can use it over and over in a sheet protector. You could also laminate this page if you are going to use the printable a lot.

Using Cones & Ice Cream Scoops with Math Fact Page

the math fact page is a great center printable. You can see we put the cones and scoops on rings. This helps keep the items together easier in a center.

You can give them 6 cones and let them flip through the numbers to find the matching math numbers for the cone. Then they can fill out the sheet with their numbers.
