What you need for the Groundhog Shadow Painting
These are all the items that we used to make this painting activity.
How to make the Groundhog Shadow Painting
Since we are using watercolors for the background we painted the watercolor paper with water first. This allows the watercolors to spread easier.
Then we painted the ground. We use a mix of green and black to make it. The water on the paper helps the colors mix and is loads of fun to use.
You can do this complex and use two colors or make it simple and just use green for the ground.
Then we painted the sky. We were going for a fun sunrise time. We looked at sunrises to see the colors. So that the groundhog would see his shadow.
You could also make this simple and do a blue sky for younger kids.
Finally we added our groundhogs. We use a groundhog cookie cutter
You hold the cookie cutter in space and paint it inside with a cotton swab or q-tip. You could also use a paintbrush.
If kids are too small to do this then trace the cookie cutter and cut it out. Then they can glue on the groundhog.
