Pumpkin Patch Watercolor and Paint for Kids
Pumpkins are a favorite fall theme. And we love doing crafts with pumpkins. Today I have a great pumpkin watercolor and paint mixed art project with cookie cutters.
This pumpkin painting is great for fall, Halloween, and Thanksgiving.
It is a super simple fall art project that a mix of ages could do at the same time!

What you need for this pumpkin painting activity:
- pumpkin cookie cutters
- watercolor paper
- watercolors
- orange and green washable paints
- large paint brush
- clothespins
- cotton balls
- paint tray
- q-tip
How to make the Mixed Art Pumpkin Patch
When you are coloring a background with watercolors, you can just paint with water over the watercolor paper to help the watercolor spread easier.
We started with green watercolor. You can use one color of green and mix different colors of green. It is fun to do a mix of colors. We also picked how high the green would go and left space for blue.
Then we painted the sky blue. We did a mix of light and dark colors to give it a unique feel. I also like that when you don’t use a lot of water with watercolors the paper is ready quickly for the next step.
Next, we pulled out the two sizes of pumpkin cookie cutters. We used a cotton ball in a clothespin for our brush. This gave the pumpkins a fun texture. You hold the cookie cutter in place and then paint inside leaving the stem part not colored.
We then painted the stem of the pumpkin with a q-tip. It made it easy to get into smaller spaces.
Here is a look at what the pumpkin looks like! You can paint as many or as few as you want on the paper. It is fun to see how pumpkin they will do.
Then you add more pumpkins until you are done painting!
