Free Trigraph Matching Cards
There are many parts to learning to read, and trigraphs are part of that. The free trigraph matching cards are a fun way to introduce and review consonant trigraphs.
You have a fun set of cards for kids to work on matching pictures and matching trigraph words. This is about learning the trigraph in the picture and matching a word with the same trigraph.

What is a Trigraph?
A trigraph is a group of three letters representing one sound. You can have two types of trigraphs consonant trigraphs and vowel trigraphs.
These are beginning consonant trigraphs: sch, scr, shr, spl, spr, squ, str, the,
And two ending trigraphs dge and tch.

This fun set of consonant trigraph matching cards matches a picture of the trigraph and a word with the trigraph. You can use the cards in many different ways.

Ways to Use the Trigraph Matching Cards Printable
I will show you a few ways to use the Trigraph matching cards.
Review the Trigraph Words
If this is the first time they have seen these trigraph cards, it might be a great idea to review the trigraphs on the cards. You can say the word on the trigraph word card and have them say what the trigraphs on the picture is.
Then you can ask what trigraph they are. You can have them point out the trigraph in the word card.
Trigraphs Matching Game
You can create a fun matching game with the trigraph cards. You can put the trigraph picture cards on one side and the trigraph word cards on the other side. This allows kids to see the different types of words and pictures.
You could do beginning trigraphs only or ending trigraphs only for the matching. Do a matching activity for what you are teaching.
Another fun way would be to use the same digraph but make it ending trigraphs and beginning trigraphs. You can see a mix of the trigraphs below.
You can see one of the matches here. It is a simple way to match and then have them say the words and the point out the trigraph in the word.
Match Trigraphs on Table Top Pocket Chart
You can do the matching in a table top pocket chart. You can put the trigraph picture card in the pocket chart and have kids match the trigraph word.
You can mix it up just like the options above. Plus this makes it an easy to do learning center.
Matching Trigraph Cards on Rings
You can put the trigraph cards on rings. This makes them easy to store and keeps the trigraph cards together. If you plan on using the cards this way a lot, it is best to print on cardstock and laminate them to help keep the cards together longer.
You can see how easy it is to turn the set of cards into a matching activity. You can flip through the cards and find the matches.
After matching the trigraph cards, they could write the two trigraph words on paper. You can get some easy to use writing paper on the site. You can also find seasonal writing paper as well.
Underline the Trigraph on the Cards
You can also give kids their own set of trigraph cards. That way, they can work on learning the words. And one activity they can do is to underline the three letters that make the trigraph.
