Black and White Space Themed Water Bead Sensory Bin
Every now and then we do a sensory bin that lends itself to doing other bin that is similar. And a rock and water bead is just like that.
We have been doing a space-themed part to our summer and we wanted to do a water bead sensory bin again. We did a black and white rock sensory bin a few years ago. And this time we changed it up for something new.
Water beads are always a favorite for us. We use them all the time and my girls just love it. I love that the rocks have different textures. The white rocks have more texture than the smooth black rocks.
This made the bin very fun to play in.
What you need for this sensory bin:
One of the first things they always do is see how much they can mix up the rocks in the bin. They love finding and feeling the textures in the bin. It is an easy way to get some sensory input.
They also love scooping up the rocks and seeing how much of what color they got. We do this several times. We have in the past made a graph and kept track of it.
They also played a game of how many rocks can I put on the back of my hands. It is great fine motor and balance work as the rocks begin to pile up.
A fun activity we did was make a constellation in the bin with white rocks. You have to make it as fast as you can before the rocks sink.
The last activity they love to do is pull out the rocks by colors. They did the white rocks and then the black rocks. Since they have different textures you could have them do it with or without looking.
