5 Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate Watercolor
I think we have favorite books that we have read every Halloween. It is Five Little Pumpkins. We have done several craft projects with the book. It is still a favorite book many years later.
My girls asked this year what we were going to do for the book. I asked them and let them think about what craft or painting project would be fun. They asked for a cookie cutter painting. I thought why not! It would be fun!
Today I have a fun watercolor painting that my girls did for the book Five Little Pumpkins.
I love to put a craft and book together. We had tons of fun digging through our moving boxes to find Five Little Pumpkins and Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins. We each took turns reading the first Five Pumpkin books in fun voices. Then we each read a page of the Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins. It was tons of fun to do.
What you need for this activities:
Since my girls are older I often ask them how they want to start a project or craft. They pointed out that the pumpkins first have to have their gate to sit on. They drew how they thought the gate should look.
After the gate was made we used the pumpkin cookie cutters and watercolors to create our pumpkins. It makes a fun fine motor painting activity.
We let the pumpkins dry while we started painting other parts of the picture. My girls started working on their gates and backgrounds. They both decided how they wanted their pictures to look and what colors they would use.
After the pumpkins had dried a bit they painted the faces on them. It is always fun to see how creative they can be.
They finished up their painting by coloring in all of the background. Kids can be creative when you give them simple ideas. Plus this is loads of fun for them to do.
Here is a look at their final paintings.
