Fun Valentines Themed Sight Word Puzzles Sensory Bag
I’m always looking for new ways to do sight words. We have done several sensory bags but I don’t think I’ve ever posted about them! This time was a sensory bag puzzle challenge!
My girls love playing in a sensory bin and sensory bags. We have done a lot with them. I love putting them into our learning. It changes up the normal everyday learning.
The free Valentines themed sight word puzzles are loads of fun for kids.
This is a part of the 7 Days of Valentines Printables.
Each of the puzzles is a 3 letter sight word from the Dolch Sight Words. This is to something simple to have some fun with. There are loads of 3 letters words. These would also be fun to use with the Valentines Sight Word Finds.
I decided to change things up with the puzzles and do a few at a time in a sensory bag. It was a fun way for kids to have some sensory fun while working on sight words. A lot of the ingredients I used in the bag are similar to the Valentines Heart Sensory Bin.
What you need for this activity:
- Valetines Puzzles (See below for link)
- Galon plastic bag
- small heart buttons
- rice
- Valentines Paper
- small table topper glitter hearts (I got at Michael’s)
- Packing tape
- Valentines Washi Tape
I use the packing tape to secure the edge of the bag. My girls can be hard sometimes with the bags. Afterward, I put washi tape around the edges to make it pretty.
I printed all the puzzles on cardstock and then laminated them to make the puzzles last longer.
My youngest has been learning loads of 3 letter sight words in first grade. She has learned that some start the same and end different like: who and why. Part of what made this bag fun was I put similar 3 letter words in the bag.
After she found a matching word she would write it on her paper.
My youngest loved exploring all the items in the bag.
I will say the bags work best one at a time. My older girls wanted to look at the bag and well it did not go well. So we cleaned it all up and put the puzzles in a sensory bin and added in all the heart buttons.
I also added a lot more of the puzzles into the bin.
This became loads of fun because she mixed up the matches to see if she could still make works. Like instead of say or saw it became sag.
She pulled the puzzles out of the bin when she made matches. This still was a fun sensory experience for her while working on sight words. Plus she also shows you how the puzzles can be just that puzzles that kids can match.
Learn to be flexible with learning. This was fun. Not everything went as planned but was still learning and fun.
Don’t forget you can do the Valentines Sight Word Finds with these puzzles as well. You can match the puzzle and then use the matching sight word find!
