Sweet Dream Pie – Making Playdough Pies
We have joined the Virtual Summer Reading Program hosted by Toddler Approved. July’s author is Don & Audrey Wood.
We read Sweet Dream Pie by Audrey Wood & Mark Teague. It was a pie fill with lots of sugary candies and then what happens while the pie is made and after everyone eats the pie. Sadly it looks like to book is out of print, but you can get it from your local library.
What you need: playdough in many colors, pie tin or small bowls, rolling pins, and dull butter knife for cutting playdough.
The girls rolled out their pie shells and put them in the pie tin.
The girls made the candies to go in the pie. They made big and small pieces. They made many different creations.
They filled up the whole pie tin.
The girls rolled out the top and put it on their pie.
The girls poked air holes into the pie just like the story.
Rose put the pies in the pretend oven to cook.
The girls sliced up their pies to pretend to eat.
Rose and Amelia also acted out a lot of the book. They both showed they could have one eye open and rolled over.
Here are some of the great books you can read by Don & Audrey Woods.

Oh fun! I love the idea of making pies out of play dough. It looks like you had a great time. I will be pinning to my play dough board.
Yes we had a great time. The girls loved it. It was so much fun and different than some of the normal things we do.
I absolutely LOVE the play dough pies! They look exactly like the images from the book. We will definitely be doing this one at our house!
It was fun. I joined in as well in making parts of the candy. They loved picking out the colors and just having fun with it.
The looks like a lot of fun! The girls look like they really got into it.
Yes and they played with it well after we were done as well. It kept them happy for a long time playing with their pie.
Such a fun idea!! Surprisingly, we have never made playdough pies. We will have to do that!
Thanks!
I didn’t know Audrey Wood teamed up with Mark Teague on a book. I hope my library has that! Love the playdough pies.
What fun! Looks like they thoroughly enjoyed the activity and the book!
Thanks for sharing with learning laboratory =)
Oh, I love this book, and I’m sad it’s out of print. The girls look like they had a lot of fun! What a great blog hop!
