Jack Be Nimble Activity & Free Pack

The Mother Goose Rhymes were some of the first poems that my girls learn. They are fun and have been around for a long time. Several of the poems have changed over the years.

We picked together one of their favorite poems for this month’s Poppins Book Nook. We are doing Jack Be Nimble.

Jack Be Nimble is a great short poem that is easy to memorize or just something to have fun with. We are using the version from The Real Mother Goose. Our copy has been well used. Plus we have had several board books with the rhymes in them. Jack Be Nimble is one of my girls favorite.

What you need for these activities:

paper roll 2 sizes
yellow tissue paper
words from poem (part 1)

The first activity we did was make the poem. I did not tell them what the poem would be in advance. I let them guess as they made it.

After they made the poem we picked out the two rhyming words quick and candlestick. We then said other words that rhymed with them.

We did a little reciting of the poem and jumping over our candle stick. This was a fun way to bring the poem alive for them. We started off with a small candle stick.

Then we moved to a large candle stick. This is something they really loved doing! It was simple and reading the poem before the jump made it fun.
