5 Bear Walking Activities for Kids
I love bear walking because it works so many different muscles on the body while you are doing it. It is also fun for kids to do. They can laugh, roar, and make stomping sounds all while bear walking.
These are some simple ideas that require almost nothing to do!

We have always loved doing movements from the Gross Motor Printable List: Animals. It gives you a fun list of ideas to do. And just one fun idea from that list is bear walking. We do it a lot. It is a simple activity that gives deep pressure and big muscle movements to kids that need it.
I have five fun ways we do bear walking and I’m going to share them with you today.
The only prep that I did for this activity was to put down two lines of masking tape and grab 4 or 5 stuff animals (pick the size that works best for you kids).
5 Bear Walking Activities
The most basic one is just doing the bear walk. I encourage my girls to walk all over in a room and around objects. It changes up the direction and is all-around fun. You can have kids growl while they walk. It is fun to see how creative they can be with their growls.
Another activity requires the two lines on the floor. These lines should be placed based on how big your kids are. So they might be closer together than ours are on the floor.
You have them place the hands and feet on the tape lines. The right side on one line and the left side on the other. You then have them bear walk keeping them hands and on the tape lines. You can have them walk forward or backward.
Using the same lines as above they put their hands on one line and their feet on the other line. Then they can bear walk sideways. This is really a lot of fun to do and change be a change until you get used to it. I find the tape line helps them stay the right direction. If you want to do this without the lines you could do the bear gross walking motor dice for direction.
Another fun challenging activity is to have them bear walk on the same line! They keep their hands and feet on one line and bear walk. This can be a challenge for younger kids but you can always try and see how they do.
You might see them wobble and fall but this is all fun!
And our final fun activity bear walking activity is lowering the head to a stuffed animal. As they do their bear walk and they come up to a stuffed animal they lower their head to touch the stuffed animal and then back up. Then walk to the next one and repeat it.
If you have only kids small stuff animals work great. If you have younger kids give them bigger stuff animals to put their heads to.
This gives another direction of up and down with their walking.
Bear walking is loads of fun and is great for kids that need some deep pressure or just need some extra gross motor. This takes no time as all to do.
