From Caterpillar to Butterfly – Painting Butterflies
Check out this fun activity of painting butterflies and our trip to see real a Butterfly Place mentioned in the book.
We read the book From Caterpillar to Butterfly. Then we took a trip to The Butterfly Place. We also read the book again when we got home and reviewed what we saw while we were visiting.
The Butterfly Place
The Butterfly Place is a great indoor area to look and see butterflies flying around! You can learn a lot in a small amount of time. If you have one in your area I encourage you to take a look at it.
Painting Butterflies
One thing we noticed while we visited was that the butterflies have the same pattern on both wings. We did this fun painting activity to recreate that effect at home.
What you need: papers with a butterfly pattern on them folded in half, paints, water bowl, paint tray, paint brush.
The girls painted one side of the butterfly.
Then they closed the butterfly to apply the paint to the other side.
We opened up the butterflies to see what we created.

I LOVE the butterfly paintings!! Looks like a lot of fun! We bought some caterpillars this spring!
The girls just love butterflies! It was a lot of fun for them and me.
We’ve got our very own caterpillars who have just gone into cocoons so we have been doing a lot of butterfly painting/pictures waiting for them to emerge. These are lovely. Thanks for sharing x
I’m hoping to get some for the girls soon.
The butterflies look adorable!! Have featured it on my blog today, come grab a button:) http://www.puttiprapancha.com/2012/05/butterflies-kids-co-op.html
