Using Early Reader Printables: Word Paths
Word path or mazes are a fun way to learn and read words. You can do these early reader printables many different ways. They are among my favorite early reader printables. I want to show you a few ways that we use these printables. One again we are using the printables from Early Reader Printables: BOB Books Set 1.
What you used for these activities: word path from Early Reader Printables BOB Books Set 1, small buttons, dot marker, pencil with fun eraser for pointer, and window guide.
I love using the guide window when they are younger to read when we are doing the word paths. I make two different types: one with a big window and one with a small window. I cut them out and them laminate them. I use the Scotch Thermal Laminator for all my laminating. These help give them a focus area while reading the words.
I place the reading window on the word path. I get her a pointer and have her read the line of words. I make sure she points to each word as she goes across the page. A few times I will ask her to find me a word on the row of words. As she finishes a line she moves the window to the next line. We may read all the lines of just few lines of the word path.
The next fun activity we do is a hands on fine motor while doing the word path. I like to use small objects while doing this activity. This time we used small buttons.
The final time through the word path we use a dot marker. I love using them because they are fun. She loves to stamp the pages.
These activities could also be used with any of the Word Family Paths, Romping & Roaring ABC Letter Mazes and Sight Word Mazes in the Romping & Roaring Sight Word Sets.

Great ideas – I will have to try them with my daughter.
I love these ideas here! I’ll pin these for using in the fall with my boys when we get to sight words.
Thanks for linking up with the Thoughtful Spot!
I love the reading window- very cool!
What are the dimensions of your “windows”? Thank you
I believe the windows were around 1/2 inch to 1 inch. If I can find them again I’ll let update the post with the dimentions.
