Easy Christmas Decorating: Wrapping Pictures

If you are like me you don’t like to have tons of things to pull out for decorating for a holiday. Then after the holiday is over pulling all the decorations down. One easy way I get around this for Christmas is I wrap the pictures in the house! It is simple and easy, plus clean up is nice.

Another nice part is that this does not have to cost a fortune to decorate. I like have simple things I can use. Plus every year the house will look different. You can always change and mix up the wrapping paper as well. Nothing says you have to use just one color.

What you need: wrapping paper, bows, scissors, and tape.

Here are our pictures before I started.

I placed the pictures on the paper to measure them out. You only need enough to cover the front of the picture and over lap on the back of the picture about an inch.

Then you fold the paper around the frame. When I fold the paper on the back of the picture I make sure to tape the paper to the paper and not the picture frame. This allows for easier taking off of the paper and does not hurt the frame at all. You also don’t want to cover the hooks that you hang the picture up with.

How it looks on the back when I’m finished. You can see that the tape is only on the paper.

I put a bow on the picture. This makes a nice finishing touch. You can use several different colors of bows to match up with the wrapping paper.

Then I hang the picture back on the wall.

A variation on the wrapping is to tear a few of them open so you can see the picture. After you finish wrapping poke or cut a hole in the wrapping.

Tear back from the center and tape back the pieces.

Then hang the picture on the wall.

A nice part of doing it this way is you can get wrapping paper from the end of the year for cheap and for the next year. Plus if you get a big roll you can use it and the bows two years in a row.

While I did the wrapping the girls helped sort the bows.

  1. This is such a fun idea – I would have never thought of it but so easy to get a hold of the materials and the wrapping is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. I love it. If you had enough pictures you could also use it as an advent countdown – revealing one picture a day (or week) throughout December.

    1. Yes that would be easy to do an advent countdown with it. Just add a number to them. 🙂

I have the pictures all up my stairs and throughout the house done. I’m glad you like it!
