Whose Tools Are These: Exploring Community Helps Tools
This month the Community helper Pack came out. It has been loads of fun to use. We really loved the books we have been using for it. So we pick a book from that to use for our Poppins Book Nook activity this month.
We decided to use the book Whose Tools Are These?: A Look at Tools Workers Use – Big, Sharp, and Smooth (Whose Is It?: Community Workers). I really love this series of books because if gives you so much you can explore.
What you need: various tools that community helpers might have or use.
We explored each of the tools one the tray. We pulled out the ones that were from the book and not and talked about what ways they could use these tools.
Hairdresser or hair stylist was fun to pretend to use the blow drier.
Doctor was lots of fun to pretend to listen to the heart and lungs.
Veterinarian was also good as well. They pretended to check their stuff animals.
This was such a fun activity and one that you can let go and do some free play with for a while. You can always try different tools on different days. Look at the tools and see if more than one person might use that tool. You could name a name and have them look for tools you might have in the house. This is fun and a great way to explore the tools and learn more about the community and their jobs.
Don’t forget to check out the Free Community Pack. It has over 190 pages of activities!

THANK YOU for all the great FREE games and activities! I teach 17 four year olds. I also had them as threes! They love Pete the Cat, so I cannot wait to get the packet printed out! Many thanks! So glad I came across you on Pinterest!
I like that you could use things you had at home to explore the tools of the people working in the community. It looks like the girls had fun pretending and trying out these jobs.
Thank you for helping to bring a spoonful of reading fun to the Poppins Book Nook this month!
Very cute way to explore community helpers!
This is an awesome resource! I am a school counselor in an elementary school and I’m always looking for new ideas and resources. Thank you for this!
