Star Sensory Bin For a Space Theme
Sensory play is so important to a lot of kids. And sensory bins can be an easy part of it. The Star Sensory Bin is a great way to add in sensory play.
The star sensory bin takes less than a minute to set up. You have stars, black rocks, and rice in a bin. You can add other items in if you want as well.
But just like that you have a great space sensory bin for kids to explore.
The Star Sensory Bin is a great addition to the space activity and sensory bins on the site.
What is a sensory bin?
A sensory bin is typically a plastic tub or container filled with carefully selected materials and objects to stimulate the senses of children in preschool.
Sensory bins might have rice, water beads, corn, beans, or other types filled with small items.
Star Sensory Bin
The star sensory bin is a great space sensory bin. You have a rice base. This means that most of the bin is filled up with rice and then the star and black rocks are added into the bin.
This is a simple sensory bin to set up for kids to play in for any space theme or maybe even World Space Week in October.
And this would make a good shape theme sensory bins for just the stars.

Ways to Use the Star Sensory Bin
I’m going to show you a few ways to use this fun star sensory bin for a space theme. And just remember sensory bins are for play and if that is all you do then that is a great use of your sensory bin.
Play in the Sensory Bin
We always start off with playing in the sensory bin. And it is super fun to do. Let then run their hands through the sensory bin.
have them tell you about the bin. They will have a blast looking at the stars and black rocks.
Sort the Black Rocks and Stars
This is a great sensory bin for sorting items. You can go through the sensory bin and find and sort the black rocks and the stars on different sides.
This will have kids digging in the rice to find all the black rocks and stars. You can sort them right in the sensory bin. You can do this solo or have kids do it in a group.
Sorting Color of Stars
Another great sorting activity is with just the stars. They have so many great colors of stars you can start.
You can look at the stars and see that there are two shades of blue and green.
You can count how many of each star color is in the sensory bin.
And kids may have their own ideas of what to do with the colors after they are sorted.
Making Shapes with the Stars
A great activity with the stars is to make shapes with the stars. If you need help with shape ideas check out the star shape playdough mats. They work great with this star sensory bin.
You can clear an area in the middle of the rice and then have kids make their shapes. You can do simple or comlex.
PS if you have older kids have them so figure the perimeter of the shapes.
And remember just have fun with this star sensory bin!
What To Do After you are Done with the Sensory Bin
After you are done with you sensory bin. You can sort out the stars and black rocks and put them each in a bag. Then pour the rice into a gallon size bag and it is all cleaned up and ready to use the next time. Plus these items might go great with other sensory bins as well.
