Painting Valentines Shirts
My mother showed me an article in Family Fun Magazine called Adoily-able T-shirt. I liked the idea and wanted to try it with the girls.
What you need for this activity: pre-washed t-shirt, doily, glue stick, newspaper, fabric paint, and foam stencil brush.
I collected what items I had in the house and then bought some black shirts. My oldest picked out pink paint and my middle picked out red. I cleaned up the work area and got everything ready to use. I glued down the doilies so they were ready to paint. It became obvious after 10 seconds that the glue would not hold down well enough so I pinned them down as well. I also switched from newspaper to cardboard. These changes made it steadier for them to do.
I poured the paint onto paper plates and gave them instructions to cover the black areas with their paint. They went at it with a smile.
After a few minutes it was clear they wanted to paint the whole heart and not just the black areas. Soon the outer edge of the heart was painted as well.
When they were all done each was happy with their shirts. We pulled off the doilies and got a look at the finished product.
The shirts dried overnight. The next day I covered them with paper and ironed the hearts to set in the paint. All three were excited to wear their shirts on Valentines day!
