There are several different pages to use with your kids. Plus they are a no-prep free prewriting worksheet you can use with kids.
They are easy to use and great for those that are working up from bigger lines to smaller lines to trace.
Prewriting is something that some kids need a lot of work on. I know that with my girls, each of them varied in what they needed. I made these free prewriting worksheets as a way to help out my youngest get better at her pre-writing.
So what is pre-writing?
I remember the first time I heard the word pre-writing in school. My first thought was writing a paper or starting a paper.
But for young kids, pre-writing is the skill to build to work up to writing letters and other types of writing. It also teaches the direction that we read.
You can start a lot of those skills with fine motor activities with playdough and other small motor movements. But a lot of those skills are working up to prewriting with lines. Then working on more fine motor skills that help to do better with writing and reading later in life.
You start out with thick prewriting lines and work to thinner prewriting lines. Then to prewriting patterns that work into writing letters.
Prewriting Practice Printables
This is a fun collection of pre writing worksheets for you with your kids to use. There are 14 different pages of prewriting practice. This gives them a chance to build up some of the basic writing and fine motor skills.
Each of the prewriting pages has one type of prewriting line that they can focus on. This allows you to focus on one type of prewriting.
Here is an example of one of the pages. I love to use pencils for older kids but you can always change that up.
These are great kids in prek (ages 4 to 5) and kindergarten (ages 5 to 6). But you can use them for preschool (age 3 to 4) as well.

How we use this Prewriting Printable
If you want to change things up to can always use different items with them. You can always use just a pencil as shown above. But not all kids are excited about that.
Practice Pre Writing With a Marker
One of the ways we change it up is to use markers. The big markers are easy to grip and kids can pick their favorite color to use no-prep prewritng sheets.
Pre-Writing With Crayons
I also love to give them different crayons to match the number of lines and have them trace each prewriting line with the colors.
Crayons are great with the small hold with the fingers.
Pre Writing With Watercolors
If you have someone who needs a challenge with the pages try using watercolors. It forces them to work more fine motor skills while painting the small dotted prewriting lines. You can start simple and work up to the more complex prewriting lines.
Reuse Prewriting Worksheets With Kids
If you want to use these prewriting worksheets over and over put them in sheet protectors and give them a dry erase marker and let them use the pages over and over. You can also laminate the pages as well.
Prewriting as a Fine Motor Mat
One fun activity we have done with them is to put mini erasers on the pre-writing lines. This is a fun way to change up the how you use the pages. You can always find erasers that or even stickers that would make what your child or student has an interest in.
This is great for the child that does not want to write.

My little one gets bored very easily, so I let her put a little sticker at the beginning line of her practice writing; and when she finishes that line, she gets to put another little sticker at the end of that line. Thank you for your site.
You are welcome! It is fun to create new things for them to use.
I am trying to download and print the Free Prewriting printables, not the prewriting dice, but every time I click on the link it takes me to the dice one. Please help! I’d love to have the full page pratice sheets for my little one, Thanks!
Scroll down the page and you will see the download for the Prewrting Printables. All the Prewriting Printables are on the same download page.
I am having the same problem and have scrolled down (and tried about 10 different things) and still haven’t gotten your pre-writing handwriting practice.
You have to scroll all the way down.
Thanks so much! 🙂 These are great!
Thank you so very much. These are great. I am laminating the pages for my grandchild to use. It would be a bit of an expense for his parents to run off multiple copies where they live in Africa.
I put mine in sheet protectors for the girls to use. 🙂 Saving money is always a good idea.
Cassie, I’d use protector sheet if I didn’t already have a laminator and hadn’t gotten laminating sheet for about the same price as the protector sheets and if the humidity were lower where the kids live. Thanks, again, for your fine education materials.
The prewriting is not working for me either. It takes me to a blank page or to the page with all your printables.
Please read over the PDF help. It will have suggestion to fix this problem.

My first suggestion is to update your adobe reader.
I’m in windows 8, don’t know if that has anything to do with it. I don’t have a save as… mine is something else
You need to update your adobe reader. Windows 8 does not have anything to do with it.
All browser such as EI, FireFox and Chrome all have save as. But since you are taken to the home page you need to start be updating your Adobe Reader in the link in my last comment and then try again.
Ok, did the Adobe update, still got the same results. Opened in Chrome browser and it WORKED! Thanks!
