What are CVC words?
CVC words are words that have a consonant vowel consonant pattern. They have easy to sound out consonants with a short vowel sound in the middle. They don’t have any tricky blends or digraphs for kids to work around.
They are considered simple words that can be used with early readers to help sound out and decode words.
They have short vowel sounds that make sounding out words easy.
You are going to find words like cat. Kids can sound out the letters C A & T. And then blend the sounds together to make the word.
Some CVC words that kids learn are map, hat, rat, map, nap.
You have a sorting CVC word mat with three monsters with -an, -ap, and -at. You can see the fun monsters and the sorting area.
You have fifteen CVC words to sort. Each monster color has 1 word for each word family monster. You have see that all the words fit to the mat.
You have a recording sheet that is made for all 15 words. You can write the five words for each CVC word family.

Ways to Use the Monster CVC Word Sorting Printable
You can are going to see a few ways that we have used these printables and some other printables to use with this set as well.
Setting up the CVC Word Sorting Center
You can see we have the cvc word cards on the right and the cvc sorting mat on the left.
You can add the word recording worksheet as well or leave it out.
Read the CVC Word
You have them pull out a word and say the cvc word they are sorting. You can work on sounding out each letter sound or just say the word for kids that are reading more.
You can see the word cat below they sound out the c a t. And then say the word cat.
Sort the CVC Words
Then you sort the words for the CVC sorting mat. You can watch the monster build on each section of the mat. If you wanted you could cut out the sorting mat.
Write the CVC Word
After you sort the cvc words you can then record the words on the worksheet. It has the same 5 monsters that match the cards so you can write the words on the monsters.
You can see an example of one of the CVC words below and the monster it matches on the recording sheet.
Making a CVC Writing Center
You can also just set the CVC word cards and the recording worksheet as a CVC Word learning center. You have the cards and match the monster in the right columns!
Plus it is also use to use fine line markers to write the words.
